La Camerata Chromatica
A voyage between notes
The virtuosic blending of sounds like colours is a true skill. Only then can sonic images emerge that affect and move us. Even in ancient Greece, individual notes were coloured by raising or lowering them by a semitone. “χρώμα” is the Greek term for “colour”, in Latin “Chrṓma” – and this has also become firmly established in music.
It is this practice that fascinates the ensemble La Camerata Chromatica: starting with a microtonality in 16th-century Italian music, the young, six-member ensemble follows traces of a chromatic development into the early Baroque. In doing so, they encounter different styles: from the Italian Claudio Monteverdi to the Dutch Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. A multifaceted journey to the tonal nuances of music history, driven by the strong bond between two closely related notes.
