”My secret love affair with Handel’s body of work, his unapologetic emotionality and rigorous aim for a momentary truth sparked a wave of musical ideas within me, I was eager to explore”, reveals Efrat Alony. “Händel Fast Forward” is the name of her program, which she released on CD in 2023. Here she takes English arias from Handel’s oratorios, cantatas and operas and breathes new life into them with her simple yet dark and powerful jazz voice.

Efrat Alony, who is originally from Haifa and lives in Berlin, is one of the most prominent female singers in the European jazz scene. With a small ensemble, she improvises and varies baroque textures and demonstrates the close relationship to jazz music in an almost dreamlike way. A vocal dance to Handel’s melodies has quite possibly never sounded so groovy, intimate and genuine.
