Ricercari per Violoncello
”Ricercari per violoncello” is the title of the instrumental compositions by the Italian composer and cellist Domenico Gabrielli and it can be translated in the sense of “searching with the cello”. Yet if you listen to Alexander Scherf, you may just think you’ve found exactly what you’re looking for.
Alexander Scherf has already played in the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and London’s Barbican Centre, and now he sits with us on the west bank of the lake “Kiessee” as the first rays of the rising May sun glisten on the water. A similar wanderlust brought Dall’Abaco from Brussels to Verona via Munich, northern Italy, Bonn and England, and today, on the last day of the Festival, his compositions, together with those of Gabrielli and Bach, put an end to our search.
