When I suddenly fell for it
Herzberger Kammerchor & Schwanthaler Trompetenconsort
The Harz greywacke stonework is not quite as old as Handel’s music – and yet the Church of St Nicolai in Herzberg offers the perfect acoustical space for baroque polychoral music. All around the nave, musicians can position themselves on galleries, cast sounds into the room in scattered “choirs” or join forces to make the vaulted ceiling vibrate with the sound of powerful chords.
The Herzberg Chamber Choir invites the Austrian Schwanthaler Trompetenconsort to its home in the southern Harz region to pay homage to this multi-choral splendour. Precious highlights are guaranteed with the music by Valentine Snow, a contemporary of Handel and, in his day, the chief trumpeter to the English king.
Works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann (Jan) Dismas Zelenka, Christobal de Morales, Philipp Jakob Rittler, Claudio Monteverdi, Valentine Snow, Arnold von Bruck, Thomas Tallis
