Congrats, Nic McGegan!
Nicholas McGegan is a music lover. Equally at home with jazz classics and fado, he admires the music of Benjamin Britten and the nostalgic folk songs of Judy Collins. On the podium, however, he is in his element conducting Baroque music. He is a world-renowned expert on 18th century music. For 20 years, he directed the Göttingen International Handel Festival. To celebrate his 75th birthday in his “German homeland”, he has invited a chamber music ensemble together with a soprano: the voice of Arianna Vendittelli fills the air like the scent of roses and the soprano shows why Antonio Vivaldi was so highly esteemed for his operas during his lifetime. Sparkling tones, vivid coloratura.
Nicholas McGegan has shaped the Göttingen Handel Festival like no other. Handel remains at the heart of his artistic work. McGegan returned to the Festival last year and delivered a baroque highlight with Handel’s oratorio Deborah.
