Enchanted Island
Children’s concert with Capella de la Torre
The sorcerer Prospero, once Duke of Milan, has fled to an island to escape his power-hungry brother. There he lives with his daughter Miranda and the sylph Ariel, awaiting his hour of vengeance. When his brother’s ship finally sails by, he causes a storm and his relatives are stranded on the island. The play begins.
“The Tempest” is considered to be one of William Shakespeare’s last plays, written around 1610. The members of the Capella de la Torre ensemble take us back to that time, using period instruments to bring Shakespeare’s characters to life. With music by John Playford, Orlando Gibbons and George Frederic Handel, they deliver an authentic sound. Lasting just under an hour, the fairy-tale play allows audiences young and old to participate and be swept away by the storm.
