Handel's Hamster
“A theatre evening about small rodents and great musical history, the latest gossip, financial ruin, menacing cats and the pitfalls of being an artist”. This is how the Theater der Nacht describes its fabulous puppet theatre, commissioned by the Göttingen Handel Festival, which has turned out to be a long-running hit. To put it briefly: good fun for the whole family.
It is undisputed that Handel practically hamster-hoarded immortal melodies in 42 operas and 25 oratorios. But who would have thought that he would get help from a real furry hoarder – and that he would morph from a nosy roommate into an indispensable furbaby? Master and hamster share joys, sorrows and life threatening circumstances, be it through neighbour Mary's feisty house cat, or through money-grabbing castrati, layoffs or rivalry. But in the end – promise! – neither of them will have to throw in the towel. A “refreshing and huge hit” (Thomas Kügler) for little art buffs aged 10 and up.
