Aula der Universität Göttingen
The Aula – Great Hall – of Göttingen University at Wilhelmsplatz is an imposing setting for occasions of various kinds: doctorates are conferred in festive ceremonies, newly appointed professors hold their inaugural lectures, and distinguished scientists and scholars speak in the framework of lecture series held by the University and Göttingen’s Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Furthermore, the Aula is a first-class venue for concerts and other performances. Steeped in a rich tradition, the magnificent hall offers a particularly striking backdrop, the Wall of Kings, on which are displayed portraits and busts of the territorial rulers from the time of the founding of Göttingen University in 1737 up to the year 1888.
