Dieses Sprichwort gilt auch für die Musik der Barockzeit. Italien, Frankreich, Deutschland – jede dieser Musik-Nationen hat ihre besonderen Vorlieben und Eigenarten. Die Praxis zeigt glücklicherweise, dass Musik ein durchlässiges, ja ein multikulturelles Kunstprodukt ist. Das merkt man nicht nur bei Händel. Der französische Komponist François Couperin veröffentlicht 1726 eine Kammermusik-Sammlung unter dem Titel „Les Nations“ (Die Nationen). Diese steht ganz im Zeichen einer internationalen stilistischen Vielfalt. Gleichsam vielfältig und international ist auch das ensemble freymut aufgestellt. Die Mitglieder des Quartetts stammen aus Österreich, Taiwan und Korea. Aus Couperins Nationen-Zyklus haben die vier „La Françoise“ (die Französische) ausgewählt. Anders als der Titel vermuten lässt, beginnt das Stück mit einer Triosonate im italienischen Stil. Erst dann folgt die typisch französische Suite. Different countries, different customs. In 1726, the French composer François Couperin published a collection of chamber music entitled “Les Nations”. International stylistic diversity is a hallmark of this work.
