Hierhin kommt, wer vor unglückseligem Wetter, Arbeit oder Einsamkeit flieht, sich von Teppich und Theke, Bier und Holz, warmem Licht und Miteinander umfangen lassen möchte: in den britischen Pub, kurz für „Public House“. Nicht selten wird zur Abendstunde mit Dudelsack und Fiddle aufgespielt, das Publikum mit uralten Volksweisen zum Klatschen, Tanzen, Singen motiviert – besonders in Schottland und Irland, wo man ganz traditionell gälische und keltische Kultur zur Abgrenzung der englischen Übermacht pflegt. Alix Boivert hat acht Monate lang Dublin erkundet und bei seinen musikwissenschaftlichen Recherchen derartig musikalischen Reichtum entdeckt, dass er mit seinen Curious Bards seit 2014 irisch-schottisches Repertoire aus dem 18. Jahrhundert spielt: „Man verspürt diese Tiefe, diese Spiritualität und Selbstaufgabe, die ein zutiefst menschliches Musizieren ermöglichen, das aus einer ganz besonderen Einfachheit resultiert.“ Für dieses Konzert wird das PS.Forum zum Pub und Einbeck zu Dublin. The British pub, short for “public house”, is where people go to escape the elements, work or loneliness, surrounded by rugs and counters, beer and wood, warm light and togetherness. It is not uncommon for bagpipes and fiddles to be played in the evening, and for the crowd to be encouraged to clap, dance and sing along to age-old folk tunes – especially in Scotland and Ireland, where the Gaelic and Celtic cultures have traditionally been preserved to set themselves apart from their dominant English counterparts. Alix Boivert spent eight months exploring Dublin, discovering such a wealth of music during his musicological research that he has been performing 18th-century Irish-Scottish repertoire with his Curious Bards since 2014: “You can feel this depth, this spirituality and self-sacrifice that allows for a deeply human form of making music that comes from a very special simplicity.” For this concert, the PS.
